Survivorship: Learning to make lemonade like Beyonce

Meet Me at Deanwood Public Library Saturday, May 14th at 1pm

Lemonade...that cool refreshing drink made from sour and sometimes bitter fruit

If someone had told me in 2007 that by 2016 I'd be an entrepreneur, a health advocate, a motivational speaker, an author and an entrepreneur... I might have called "the people" on them or recommended a psychiatrist to them. In 2007, I was reemerging from the shadow of depression, rebuilding my career after a devastating layoff and trying to figure out why my dating life was such a mess.

A year later I had found a new job - not my dream job but one that paid the bills and gave me the hope that I could maybe afford to become a parent and buy a home of my own someday. I had a new relationship that seemed promising. And then I did a breast self-exam and felt a lump. Two months later I had a diagnosis of stage 3 breast cancer and a start date for chemotherapy.

Life was completely flipped upside down and I was bitter as hell.

Hello, lemons!

If you've been reading for awhile, you've heard this story before... it includes losing my hair, losing my breast, fighting with my medical team (I was a stubborn patient), crying a lot and feeling lost. Losing my job at the end of my treatment was the cherry on the sundae.

Fast forward a few years, I'm traveling out of the country to London because of my blog. I'm invited to participate in breast cancer conferences as a speaker. I'm participating in healthcare symposiums as a patient advocate and I've given a talk at NIH ...and I'm in a PSA commercial on BET.  About Nicole

Well... hellooooooo lemonade!

Who is THIS sister?

I am an entrepreneur, an innovator, a breast cancer advocate, a blogger, an author and I still have tons of dreams, ideas, and goals. Including getting married next year to the love of my life.

This Saturday, May 14th at 1pm, I'll be participating in The General Store, Inc.'s monthly event, Make.Do.Sessions. RSVP: Make.Do. Sessions featuring Nicole McLean

We had a good twitter chat too!

Y'all know I love twitter. I fell in love with social media because of twitter. I found my breast cancer tribe on twitter. And just about every great opportunity that I've received on this breast cancer journey came from someone via twitter. Seshat and I sat down on twitter yesterday and chatted it up for about an hour. Peep the storify below.
